Can Ernie Tame the Tiger

Dubai Classic

This weeks sees the start of the Dubai Classic, and see’s a very strong field headed by Tiger Woods making his second appearance of the season. The course although extended typically shoots low scores. So I predict their will be a lot of birdies.  Tiger Woods proved last week that he is just as hungry as ever to keep his winning streak, but this weak I have a feeling Ernie Els (11/4)might just be coming into form. At last weeks Qatar Classic he was improving every day and finishing in a credible fifth place he has proven he has shaken off those early season cob webs. My top 5 place this week would go to Lee Westwood, Lee has what it takes to make those birdies.

FBR Open

The lack of Tiger Woods at this weeks FBR Open at Scottdale GC does not distract from a World class Field. Phil Mickelson pre tournament favourite will be looking to open up his winning account after a poor 45th place in the Bob hope Classic.   I think Phil will need a few more tournaments to hit form. Vijay Singh (11/1) will be looking to improve on his current 2nd place in the FedEx cup and I think he will be this weeks winner. Young Trevor Immelman although only a rookie last year has been hitting the ball straight and accurate and he is my tip for this weeks top 5 place (4/1).

Tiger kicks off His 2007 season

Buick Invitational

Tiger Woods kicks off his 2007 season at the Buick Invitational in San Diego, if he succeds this week then this will be his seventh tour victory on the trot this is the second longest in US tour History. Although Byron Nelson in 1945, had an astonishing 11 in a row so Tiger has some way to go . He has also won this tournament in 2005 and 2006 so a hat-rick is also on the cards. Tiger normally does  well in his opening tournament since  2003 he has finished no lower than 4th  and has had two victories.

The Qatar Masters

The European Tour continues in the Gulf with the Commercial Bank Masters at Doha. It boasts it’s strongest field ever with Retief Goosen and Michael Campbell, the 2005 champion Ernie Els, with Stuart Appleby and Chris DiMarco. Paul Casey also fresh from his win in Abu Dhabi also competes. Henrik Stenson the man who holed the winning putt at last years Ryder Cup defends his title and with his recent 8th place at Abu Dhabi he looks a good bet at 12/1.
